Knowing what to expect from opponents. Michael would get blown out by cards he didn't know existed. He overcame this by playing a lot of Magic and studying decklists.
Michael drove to a Legacy event in New York-several hours away-and went 0-7. He lost every match but still had a fun time. Every game is a learning experience.
Team Top 8 at an SCG event. Winning with friends makes everything better.
PAtience and if you stick with something you'll get better at it.
Be careful of asking for advice after you in.
Players get impatient. They make plays just because. If you wait you'll find your cards have more impact.
Michael chose his Modern deck well in advance and played at least one league a day for two months.
